POS Interface with Berg Systems
Dozens of point of sale (POS) systems easily interface with Berg beverage and management systems, including those POS systems listed below. This list is based on Berg’s knowledge base or reports from Berg Dealers.
- It is the responsibility of the Berg Dealer to verify with the POS system provider that the POS system version will accept liquor control commands.
- It is the responsibility of the POS dealer to program the POS system to complete the integration process of a Berg system.
Berg will update and keep current this list, however, Berg cannot be responsible should the POS system software change or be upgraded and then not accept liquor control commands from Berg equipment. (As an example Micro Symphony II contains no Berg direct interface.) Owners and operators with a Berg system should verify with their POS provider that any upgrades to their POS system would continue to accept liquor control commands.
System Functions
- BERG 1504/704: high-flow & standard spouts allow for direct control of alcoholic-drink preparation and give access to a report by sales category and dollars via POS interface or direct thermal printer integration.
- BERG ALL-BOTTLE ID and ABID w/cocktailing: simple spirit dispenser by brand enhanced inventory control and cocktail recipe execution mean consistent drinks in a single system. Direct POS or POSID and Software reporting. (P-3 Hub required for POSID)
- BERG TAP2: automatic head for wine in casks and draft beer. Aesthetic and easy to use, this tool will lead to substantial savings by properly portioning the amount poured and by remaining locked when used. POS interface w/POSID and software reporting. (P-3 Hub required)
- BERG FLOW MONITOR: flow control for drinks in casks or kegs. A report is also available, indicating the volume of product poured compared to the amount ordered by the employees. Software reporting only.
- BERG LASER: Available with an optional touch screen interface or with a membrane switch pack, this liquor dispenser is able to control up to 16 preprogrammed brands of liquor and up to 48 preprogrammed cocktails. Greater flow rate accuracy, improved portion control and speed of delivery will significantly improve your potential for profit during limited windows of opportunity. Direct POS interface or POSID and Software reporting. (P-3 Hub required for POSID).
The POS system interface is a direct communication link between Berg dispensers and POS system terminals. The POS system can be set to capture and release sales automatically as each drink is poured.
Interface Methods
POS systems that support Berg liquor controls do so via a serial data interface with two-way communication and employ one or more of these three five main methods.
- Direct Ring-Up Pour requests sent from the Berg liquor controls to the POS system automatically ring up as they are received at the POS terminal serial port. The pour can occur only after the POS system rings up the sale and acknowledges the request.
- Pre-Checking Pour requests sent from the Berg liquor controls to the POS system are checked against a list of what has already been rung up or “pre-checked”. The pour can occur only if the item is on the list and only after the POS system acknowledges the request.
- File Posting Pour requests sent from the Berg liquor controls to the POS system are saved or “posted” to a file by the POS system, but are not automatically rung up or required to be “pre-checked”. The pour can occur only after the POS system terminal acknowledges the request and it is posted to the file. A report is then generated later by the POS system comparing the pour requests posted in the file to what was actually rung up.
- ZERO Price Pre-Checking Servers ring in items at a Zero price. The ticket is accessed by the bartender and as the items are poured the prices are added.
- Ring and Sling Items are posted to a list as the pour requests are acknowledged and the items are poured. The items on the list are later assigned to a guest check manually by the bartender. Wireless Option Berg offers a wireless option for serial interfacing with POS system terminals on the opposite side of a bar or aisle-way, or wherever a direct cable connection is impractical or expensive. Digital Dining All POS Systems – Ring / VS Notes: Must add two leading zeroes to PLU numbers on the Digital Dining side. One dealer had trouble interfacing to the USB port of a Digital Dining terminal. The terminal was replaced with one having a standard 9-pin serial port. If you must connect to a USB port, please test before making any promises and we recommend testing with the Berg single port USB converter (Part 8006887).
